In 2014, as part of the Stenograffia street art festival, Kharkiv artist Andrey Palval painted a portrait of Yuri Gagarin based on a famous photograph. The artwork carries a call for peace and harmony between nations. In 1961, Yuri Gagarin visited many countries on a mission of peace and friendship. The cosmonaut famously said: “Orbiting the Earth in a spaceship, I saw how beautiful our planet is. People, let us preserve and increase this beauty, not destroy it!” Through his artwork, the artist continues to convey vital thoughts to the people of Yekaterinburg: “The figure of Yuri Gagarin resonates equally with Ukrainians, Russians, and other people across the former Soviet Union. It connects our nations and reminds us of how much we have in common.”
