Andrey Toporov brought a beloved character of the outstanding illustrator Evgenia Sterligova into the urban environment — a dragon from Clifford D. Simak’s book The Goblin Reservation. To achieve this, the artist adapted a small-format watercolour drawing for a 70-square-metre surface. Concise composition, the creature’s dynamic pose, a muted palette, and features of classic 19th-century graphic art — the street version preserves the distinctive techniques Evgenia Sterligova used to create a mystical atmosphere.
“Books are truly the finest thing humanity has ever created. It’s the one thing that justifies our existence, if you will,” shared the artist, who describes herself as a “reader who draws and paints”. Andrey emphasised the significance of the artwork: “This project matters for several reasons. First and foremost, it’s collaboration between artists across time.
Secondly, the project reminds local residents that the Urals are a powerhouse of talent — our city is full of them.” The Dragon became an expression of gratitude from her hometown to the artist for the talent and warm illustrations she gave to children through books.
